Sometimes students are overwhelmed or distracted by difficult emotions. This makes learning more challenging. SKC students spent some time talking about what makes them angry or stressed, as well as strategies to help manage these overwhelming feelings. They really enjoyed making an anger volcano, and watching videos such as “Just Breath”(Salzman), and Angry Birds “Controlling Emotions”. Students practiced calming strategies such as yoga, art, sensory tubs, and blowing bubbles. The more times they can practice these techniques when they are calm, the more likely they are to use them when they are struggling.
