Communities In Schools (CIS) of Nevada is part of the nation’s leading stay-in-school organization, proven to keep students on the path to graduation and prepared to achieve in life. CIS connects students and their families to critical educational and community-based resources on school campuses. They work directly inside schools to identify every unique need, set and track goals, and surround students with a caring network of support.

Communities in Schools and Shania Kids Can (SKC) work together to provide resources at Martin Luther King Jr ES that connect students to the CIS program and the CIS Site Coordinator who offers the students ongoing support, follow ups, resources, and more throughout their time at Martin Luther King ES.

At MLK Elementary School, we like to honor and recognize our CHAMPS core values: caring, honesty, accountability, mindfulness, purpose, and success. We remind our students of the importance of practicing good behavior and becoming an exemplary student.

The Shania Kids Can Clubhouse/CIS Resource Room provides a place where kids can go to learn to work their emotions, learn how to positively connect with their classmates or make new friends. They can visit the Clubhouse for whatever they might need: a snack, hygiene products, help with homework, to talk with a trusted adult or secure medical appointments – what ever they need to stay focused at school.

The SKC Clubhouse also serves as a place to go for fun. The students come in to enjoy activities as a reward for having perfect attendance each month. Students with perfect monthly attendance are chosen to receive special invites. Students are invited to the Clubhouse to play board games, participate in coloring competitions, make friendship bracelets, and attend the neon dance party. Students are also provided snacks and special treats as extra incentives.

While the incentive programs are intended to be exclusive for certain students who meet their goals, the Shania Kids Can Clubhouse is always open to students who need any type of support.

The Shania Kids Can Clubhouse gives students a chance to make friends and build meaningful connections with their peers. Students at MLK ES look forward to coming into the program because they know they are always valued and encouraged to be themselves. Having the SKC Program has helped students become more confident and eager to achieve their goals.

Starting in late September, MLK ES will also begin after-school clubs. To provide extra support for the students, the SKC clubhouse will be open to students who need help with homework or tutoring.

SKC is proud to partner with Communities In Schools Nevada to bring the SKC Clubhouse to Martin Luther King Jr ES and proud of the work they do throughout the community.
