Shania Kids Can has been at Martin Luther King ES since August 2021. During that time, they have partnered with Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada, providing their resource room with games, tables, supplies, and more in order to support each Student to succeed in life. With the SKC resources our CIS Site Coordinator, Mei-Lang Garcia started a Shania Kids Can Clubhouse. Students can come into the Clubhouse three times per week during recess to play games, participate in art and craft activities, receive snacks, homework support, school supplies, or extra snacks. The Shania Kids Can Clubhouse also allows for Students to learn how to socialize with each other, work on conflict resolution, problem solving skills, mindfulness activities, and emotional awareness.

During their participation Students have an opportunity to share what their needs are in the classroom and at home with a caring adult. Communities in Schools and Shania Kids Can work together to provide resources to alleviate some of their needs as well as connect them to the CIS program which allows our Site Coordinator to provide ongoing support, follow ups, resources, and more throughout their time at Martin Luther King ES.  Through the Shania Kids Can program, our CIS Site Coordinator has been able to support 30+ Students daily and has added 10 Students to the CIS program for ongoing support and services.

One of the highlights for some of the kids was getting to spend some time with Shania at Zappo’s before her residency ended in September. The kids had a blast taking photos and hanging out with Shania.
